3D print Buildings on the Moon to be done by Foster+Patners

From www.dezeen.com
Foster + Partners is exploring the possibilities of 3D printing buildings on the moon using lunar soil.
The London architecture firm is working with the European Space Agency to investigate methods for constructing lunar homes and has designed a four-person residence that would shelter its inhabitants from dramatically changing temperatures, meteorites and gamma radiation.

The base of the house would be unpacked from a modular tube and an inflatable dome would fold up over it. Layers of lunar soil, known as regolith, would then be built up around the frame using a robot-operatedD-Shape printer, creating a lightweight foam-like formation that is derived from biological structures commonly found in nature.

Private work space vs Open Plan offices- Which do you prefer

From Dezeen
News: more than half of employees prefer a private work space, while open-plan office workers often experience too many distractions to work effectively, according to new data.
Research commissioned by British office equipment company Expert Market found that 54 per cent of workers would prefer to work in separate offices, while 65 per cent said that lack of natural light negatively impacted their mood.
"Employees reported that the open-plan design of many offices encouraged a negative sense of competition between staff and a hostile working environment that pitted colleagues against each other," said a statement from Expert Market.

"Peace and quiet came out top on the list of things which could improve employees' working day the most, with over 37 per cent of respondents preferring a quiet office over regular breaks and even cake," it added. "In the quest to boost team morale through a relaxed and less formal environment, companies may have achieved quite the opposite."

The Nigerian Traditional Architecture 1

The Nigerian Traditional Architecture is not a widely discussed subject and over the years Search on Google produces the same picture that have been there for a while. The question is Do we as Nigerian Architects still Have our own style? and if we do, do we incorporate it into our Modern designs? or Probably we have left it all and have focused more on the European styles...

The Historical Style and Traditional Architecture
A basic distinction in Nigerian architecture can be made between the North and the South, and this is best pronounced by Traditional Architecture and Traditional Style. The strongest influences on indigenous architecture were the introduction of Islam into Northern Nigeria, the return of the ex-slaves from the Americas (especially Brazil), and colonization. The Historical Style consists of the European Trend followed by the Colonial Style. The Brazilian Trend evolved into the Brazilian Style while the North African Trend evolved into Sudanese Architecture. The blend of Traditional Architecture and Historical Styles formed Vernacular Architecture.
