3D print Buildings on the Moon to be done by Foster+Patners

From www.dezeen.com
Foster + Partners is exploring the possibilities of 3D printing buildings on the moon using lunar soil.
The London architecture firm is working with the European Space Agency to investigate methods for constructing lunar homes and has designed a four-person residence that would shelter its inhabitants from dramatically changing temperatures, meteorites and gamma radiation.
Foster + Partners to 3D print buildings on the moon
The base of the house would be unpacked from a modular tube and an inflatable dome would fold up over it. Layers of lunar soil, known as regolith, would then be built up around the frame using a robot-operatedD-Shape printer, creating a lightweight foam-like formation that is derived from biological structures commonly found in nature.

Private work space vs Open Plan offices- Which do you prefer

From Dezeen
News: more than half of employees prefer a private work space, while open-plan office workers often experience too many distractions to work effectively, according to new data.
Research commissioned by British office equipment company Expert Market found that 54 per cent of workers would prefer to work in separate offices, while 65 per cent said that lack of natural light negatively impacted their mood.
"Employees reported that the open-plan design of many offices encouraged a negative sense of competition between staff and a hostile working environment that pitted colleagues against each other," said a statement from Expert Market.

"Peace and quiet came out top on the list of things which could improve employees' working day the most, with over 37 per cent of respondents preferring a quiet office over regular breaks and even cake," it added. "In the quest to boost team morale through a relaxed and less formal environment, companies may have achieved quite the opposite."

Inspiring and Creative 3d interior Models

It gives the pleasure to see the proper furniture placement with exact measurements, effects and in three dimensions. A clear picture of the proposed plan layout and design with such visual effects gives a complete impact of the accomplished task. With furniture placement and layout of the place it gives us the pleasure to look after the light effect even before they are being implemented to the space.

The Nigerian Traditional Architecture 1

The Nigerian Traditional Architecture is not a widely discussed subject and over the years Search on Google produces the same picture that have been there for a while. The question is Do we as Nigerian Architects still Have our own style? and if we do, do we incorporate it into our Modern designs? or Probably we have left it all and have focused more on the European styles...

The Historical Style and Traditional Architecture
A basic distinction in Nigerian architecture can be made between the North and the South, and this is best pronounced by Traditional Architecture and Traditional Style. The strongest influences on indigenous architecture were the introduction of Islam into Northern Nigeria, the return of the ex-slaves from the Americas (especially Brazil), and colonization. The Historical Style consists of the European Trend followed by the Colonial Style. The Brazilian Trend evolved into the Brazilian Style while the North African Trend evolved into Sudanese Architecture. The blend of Traditional Architecture and Historical Styles formed Vernacular Architecture.

Comparing the Architecture in Abuja and that of Lagos

I would like to discuss on the Architectural Progress, style and methods of Architects in Abuja and Lagos using various criteria to compare them..Please feel free to share your thoughts, pictures, ideas, publications and articles (pharleescar@gmail.com).

Like Zayyad I. Muhammad once said in his article "A tale of two cities"

Lagos and Abuja are two faces of Nigeria, and perhaps the pride of many Nigerians. The two cities have similarities and differences in virtually everything in them. Lagos can be liken to a beauty Queen, dressed in a glittery-white-satin, standing beside a street, smiling and waving to passersby, but when she speaks, her mouth smells, she has body odor, she is arrogant and materialistic.
Abuja on the other hand, can be liken to a beautiful Princess, dressed in a fabulous chocolate-lace, having sexy curves and hot legs, but she is a bimbo. When she speaks, her voice is thunderous, and a handshake with her; is like a grip of a female Gorilla’s hands, her hands are as strong as irons.

Architectural Picture Jokes of Today

Frank Gehry Gave the Middle finger to Journalists for criticizing his Architecture

                      Frank-Gehry-architecture-Dezeen
“Let me tell you one thing. In this world we are living in, 98 percent of everything that is built and designed today is pure shit. There’s no sense of design, no respect for humanity or for anything else. They are damn buildings and that’s it.
“Once in a while, however, there’s a small group of people who does something special. Very few. But good god, leave us alone! We are dedicated to our work. I don’t ask for work. I don’t have a publicist. I’m not waiting for anyone to call me. I work with clients who respect the art of architecture. Therefore, please don’t ask questions as stupid as that one.”

5 Embarrassing Architectural Fails

Doctors, lawyers, scientists and architects are all people we assume at least sort of know what they're doing. And for good reason: If a barista gets a job that he or she is patently unqualified for, you might get too much mocha syrup in your frappe. But if, say, an architect has an off day, your apartment could fold in on itself the next time you close your bedroom and kitchen windows at the same time. But just because we expect perfection from them, that doesn't mean they always live up to it. Even architects, foremen and chief engineers come in to work hungover once in a while, and that's when we get failures like these.

#5. Lotus Riverside Collapses Because of Rain

Via Telegraph
The Lotus Riverside building complex in Shanghai was a complex of 11 buildings by the side of a river. Imagine that. By June of 2009, the project was nearing completion, with most of the flats already sold off. Then the workers showed up one morning to find that one of the buildings had fallen flat over on its side, completely intact. It was like a giant toddler came by and just smacked it over for the simple thrill of the destruction.

An Artchitects Job - Photo of the Day

An architect’s job is to listen to our clients’ hopes, dreams and desires and to work with them to create their home.
“How did you take all my random, partial, contradicting thoughts, meet the budget and schedule, and give me more than I expected?” – “I’m an architect, it’s what I do.” (not saying our clients ever come to us with random, partial, contradicting thoughts…but you get the idea!)

And the Client is Happy After all....
